To render the experience of Otherness, wei works with print media, objects, video, sound, design, and movement. Mapping Queerness and Foreignness are the matters they often research and express. wei investigates the "betwixt and between" within the homogenous timeline and ephemeral togetherness, tracing imprints by contextualizing one's and one's collective presence. Focusing on utilizing solid and corporeal yet secondary materials—such as wax that forms a mold and disappears in the regular manufacturing process, wei's current project emphasizes reconfiguring object/subject relationships within the confines of systems that exclude queer and immigrant bodies and re-evaluates the intent and experience of authenticity within the generations of the Asian diaspora and Asian immigrants.
wei currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. They received an MFA in Printmaking from the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI, and a BFA in New Media from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA. wei has shown in group exhibitions nationally and internationally. They have exhibited in group exhibitions nationally and internationally, including at LeRoy Neiman Gallery (New York, NY), All Street Gallery (New York, NY), ICA MECA&D (Portland, ME), ChaShaMa (New York, NY), Root Division (San Francisco, CA), and more. They have participated in numerous artist residencies and fellowships, including NARS Foundation (New York, NY), Anderson Ranch Arts Center (Snowmass, CO), Art Center Residency, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (New York, NY), Haystack Mountain School of Craft (Deer Isle, ME), University of California Santa Cruz (Santa Cruz, CA), Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (San Francisco, CA), Edition/Basel (Basel, Switzerland), and Santa Reparata International School of Art (Florence, Italy).
